What is Informative Speaking?

For Informative Speaking the student delivers an original, factual speech on a real subject to fulfill the general aim of informing the audience. Informative speeches teach the audience something new.

Audio-visual aids may or may not be used to supplement and reinforce the message. Multiple sources should be used and cited in the development of the speech. Minimal notes are permitted. Maximum time limit is 10 minutes.

What is Persuasive Speaking?

Persuasive Speaking is based on an original speech by the student designed to inspire, reinforce, or change the beliefs, attitudes, values or actions of the audience. These speeches move the audience to think, feel, and act differently.

Audio-visual aids may or may not be used to supplement and reinforce the message. Multiple sources should be used and cited in the development of the speech. Minimal notes are permitted. Maximum time limit is 10 minutes.

What is Speaking to Entertain?

These are humorous speeches that either persuade or inform.

What is Communication Analysis?

Communication Analysis takes an artifact (can be visual, auditory, text, really anything!) and uses a communication theory to help to explain the artifact’s meaning, use or importance.
