Santa Rosa Junior College has fielded a competitive speech and debate team for nearly 50 years. Join this empowering and enjoyable activity by enrolling in Speech 52A, Forensics. The 6-unit class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:20. The team offers expense-paid traveling opportunities to various tournaments throughout the fall and spring semesters.

In 2018 SRJC’s debate team won the overall collegiate national championship for debate season sweepstakes, a first for a two-year institution in the twenty-five year history of the National Parliamentary Debate Association. In 2016 the team ranked #1 nationally among 2-year colleges. The eloquently growling Santa Rosa bear cubs have earned gold medals at six consecutive California Community College Forensics Association (2012-2017), as well as having its students being named top tournament parliamentary debater in recent years (2013 and 2016). At the Phi Rho Pi two-year college national championships, SRJC earned gold debate sweepstakes awards in four of the past five years. If you love competing, arguing, acting, pontificating, persuading, or just being part of something fun, we're looking for energetic, fun-loving folks from all walks of life and all experience levels. Even if you've never competed in speech or debate, there is a novice division to get you started. It looks great on the resume, and some of history's best and brightest started their careers on a college debate team!
In Fall 2018, SRJC hosted its 50th Annual Intercollegiate Forensics Tournament. Dr. Jack Perella, former Forensics Director at the College, was on hand to present the Perella Award for the top speaker.
